The origins of Our Lady of Mercy Parish can be traced to the founding of the Harborcreek School for Boys in 1911. It was there that the Catholic faithful of the area gathered for Mass and later for religious education classes.

As the community of faithful grew, it became apparent that there was a need to establish a new parish with an identity of its own. In May of 1946, with the appointment of Msgr. William Hastings, the Parish of Our Lady of Mercy came to be. The community still used the gym at the Boys Home for Sunday worship until 1954.

In 1954, a multi purpose building was constructed, it served as the church, the gym, the classroom building, the meeting center, and the social center for dinners and social events - Our Lady of Mercy Parish had a place to call home.

As the community grew so did the Parish complex. The Social and Catechetical Hall, now Sperry Hall, was completed in 1963. The multi purpose building was then used exclusively for worship. With the addition of the rectory in 1966, the parish had its first resident, full time pastor, Msgr. James Sperry. The gymnasium was completed in 1975.

In 1995 the Pastoral Council reflecting on the community's faith journey which began in 194, and the legacy of those who laid the strong foundation, made plans for our faith journey into the 21st century. They began a process of renovation of the parish facilities to meet the needs of our growing community. A Building Committee was formed and plans were formulated. Construction of new offices, meeting rooms, classroom and Workship Space began in February 1999. On Christmas eve, 1999, the first Mass was celebrated in the new worship space. On New Year's Day 2000, the parish community celebrated the Laying of the Cornerstone.

All this was accomplished through the hard work, commitment and sacrifice of the faith community - those beautiful families who are the Church of Our Lady of Mercy.
