The Fourth Sunday of Advent

Christmas Mass Schedule -- Christmas Eve December 24, 4:30 p.m. & 10:00 p.m. ~~ Christmas December 25, 10:00 a.m.

Prayer for a New Bishop

O Almighty God,
Pour forth the Holy Spirit upon the Holy Father
and those who assist him
in the discernment of our new bishop.
May the one chosen have the strength
to be a compassionate leader,
who models humility and joy.
Grant him the wisdom of Solomon,
the courage of the apostles,
and the tenderness of your Son, the Good Shepherd.

We also pray for the Diocese of Erie
that he is called to serve.
May we welcome him with open hearts
and work with him in a spirit of synodality,
called to listen, collaborate, and build unity.

Through the intercession of the
Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church,
St. Joseph, the protector of the Church,
and St. Patrick, the patron of our diocese,
may we journey the path of life
with an unwavering focus
on the hope we have in Christ.

For he lives and reigns forever and ever.
Amen.

Merry Christmas

Fr. Matt, Deacoon Paul & the Staff of Our Laady of Mercy would like to wish everyone a safe & blessed Christmas season.

May the Light of Christ bring you & your family an abundance of joy this Christmas season & always.

"Jesus Is Born"

Christmas has come upon the earth;
for today is Jesus’s glorious birth.
This is a day to rejoice,
when we hear His sweet little voice.
And as the angels sing;
child would bring.
Joseph too was full of glee,
knowing the great Messiah
Jesus would someday be.
He would be known for years to come,
not just by some;
but by everyone;
yes surely this is God’s only Son.
When we give our gifts away,
on this day;
let us remember
to treat everyone the same;
for this is why He came.
And as the Christmas
season imparts;
let us all keep Jesus
tucked within our hearts.

Give a Small Christian Community a Try!

We will soon be starting a new year and embracing fresh resolutions. Consider joining a small faith group in the coming year. Here is one person’s experience.

Hello! My name is Sharon Garwig and I joined OLM parish in 2007 when I married my husband, Darrell, and moved to Erie. OLM was wonderful and welcoming, and had numerous SCCs. I had two kids, we had just moved, and I was looking for a full-time job.A weekly meeting to attend a SCC seemed like more than I could handle, but I yearned for new friends with a Catholic perspective that I could talk to. I found another working mother at Parish Alive who felt the same way I did – a weekly commitment was too much, but we felt that we could meet at least once a month – so we started our own SCC. 16 years later, we are still meeting! I still look forward to our meetings. It’s a chance to get away from work and kids (and now grandkids) and chaos, and just listen to the Word in a calm, quiet environment and reflect on how it applies to our lives today. We read the scriptures for the coming week and share what we heard afterward. Almost always, we "hear" something none of us remembers hearing previously! And because God speaks to each of us right where we are each time we hear His Word, when we share our perspectives, scripture comes alive and becomes richer and more meaningful. We also hear God challenging us to live out His Word in our lives. We not only hold each other in prayer, we hold each other accountable to growing in faith and challenge one another to action.My SCC is made up of my closest personal friends. They are the people I call when I need prayer, or direction, or a good laugh. If you could use some “faithful” friends, a positive anchor in your life when things get crazy, and new opportunities to grow in faith – a SCC may be just what you’ve been looking for. As Advent begins and we think about the coming of Christ, think about your journey to the manger... you don’t have to travel alone.
