It is the role of the parish to assist parents in nuturing the faith of their children. Parent(s) who enroll their children in the parish catechetical program will be assisted and enabled in their role as the primary educators of their children. Parent(s) are encouraged to approach the staff with ideas to meet specific needs in raising healthy and holy Catholic children and youth.

At the same time, it is essential that parents cooperate with the parish and work with those who are the designated leaders of the parish program. Parents are asked to fulfill the following expectations in order to promote the faith growth of the children and youth and to insure a quality program.

A parent who would like his or her child to attend the program:
  • Formally registers his or hier child(ren) prior to the start of each year of formal instruction in which the child(ren) is/are participating. To register, the parent/guardian must complete all necessary paperwork and sign the necessary forms.
  • Attends Mass weekly with the child(ren).
  • Takes responsibility for his or her role as primary educator.
  • Collaborates with the catechists in the program by sharing faith with the child(ren) at home and by making sure the child does any required follow-up to the lessons taught in class.
  • Teaches the child the traditional prayers of the Church at home.
  • Maintains an open line of communication with the child's catechist.
  • Provides transportation to and from formal religious education classes, ensuring that students brought to class enter the building; and meeting students at their classroom at the end of class.
  • Attends parent meetings when requested.
  • Is supportive of the catechist, especially in the area of discipline.
  • Informs the religious education leader of any pertinent medical and emergency information.
  • Informs the Office of Religious Education of any special needs, learning disabilities or physical limitations of the child. This information will be used to provide the best possible care and support of the child attending religious education programs.
Class Cancellations
If inclement weather or poor road conditions necessitates the cancellation of religious education classes, every effort will be made to have this information announced on the following radio and television stations: ROCKET 101, CLASSY 100, WJET-102, STAR 104, WJET-TV, WSEE-TV, and WICU-TV. Whenever the Harborcreek school district cancels class or dismisses early for weather related reasons, religious education classes will be cancelled.

To confirm the cancellation of home sessions, contact the home session leaders. All other inquiries should be made to the parish. Families should always use their best judgement when transporting their children.
