All families desiring to attend the formal religious education class program must register each participating child prior to the start of the academic year. This registration must be done in person by a parent, guardian or other designated adult who is responsible for the faith formation of that child.
Families who are new to the program must complete a "Registration Form", supplying the parish with pertinent sacramental and residential information for the child and immediate family members. The signature of the designated adult will verify that the child has permission to attend classes sponsored by the Office of Religious Education.
Families previously involved in the formal program register for the new year by updating their family records. Parent of guardian signature provides permission for the child's attendance at classes.
New and returning families sign several additional forms. These signed papers commit the parent to full cooperation with the parish Religious Education program. Parents/guardians agree to be responsible for transporting their child(ren) to and from classes. Children in grade 6 and under must be met at the door of their classroom by their parent/guardian or another adult designated by the parent. Registering families also state their willingness to fulfill their responsibility as primary catechist by actively raising their child(ren) as fully participating members of the Catholic community.
The Office of Religious Education provides two weekend opportunities for families to register for formal classes. The first occurs in April, as the previous year is concluding. The second occurs in August, just before the start of the new academic year. At both times, volunteers will be available after all regularly scheduled parish liturgies to assist families. Those unable to complete the process at either of these times are expected to come to the Office of Religious Education during normal working hours. Special arrangements can be made by calling the Office of Religious Education when none of these options are possible for the family.
At the time of registration, families will receive a calendar for that year of formal religious education classes. Parent meetings, Days of Retreat, sacramental celebrations and other important dates will be listed on that calendar.
Children attending Religious Education classes after school who intend on riding the specially contracted bus to the parish from their elementary school, will receive a "Bus Pass" at the time of registration. This pass must be signed by the parent or guardian and presented to the child's elementary school homeroom teacher. This will give the school authorities permission to release the childe to the "Religious Education Bus".
